Psychologist
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, Tri-County Mental Health Services and Outpatient Department, the Psychologist is responsible for the provision of comprehensive psychology services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to clients, and for consultation and education to other staff, professionals and community agencies. The Psychologist provides services across the adult mental health programs of the Cornwall Community Hospital that are consistent with the needs of the client, the policies and procedures of the Cornwall Community Hospital. The Psychologist is accountable to the standards of practice and ethical conduct endorsed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and listing with the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
- Doctorate in Psychology with training and experience in clinical psychology
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
- Listing with the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology
- Minimum 2 years experience in an inter/multidisciplinary team within a mental health setting
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of mental health and illnesses & intervention approaches
- Experience in completing client assessments and psychotherapy
- Ability to be self-directed and skilled in establishing therapeutic relationships
- Therapeutic skills in individual and group therapy with adults with various mental disorders including concurrent disorders
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, staff and community agency personnel
- Ability to educate and provide consultation to clients, families and community agency personnel
- Strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners
- Knowledge of types of relevant community resources
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and professional practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Mental Health Act, pertinent regulations, and other statutory duties
- Ability to communicate effectively with individual, groups, and other professionals within an interdisciplinary environment in a diverse community
- Ability to develop, co-ordinate and deliver in-services, presentations, psycho-educational and support groups
- Ability to be organized, conscientious and thorough with information gathering, and in documentation practices
- Computer literacy (MS Office – Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Valid driver’s license and access to own vehicle
MSW, Outpatient Mental Health
The successful candidate will provide social work, assessment and referral service for patients and their families within the hospital setting. Maintain updated information
about services available in the community.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work
- Registered with, or eligible for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Knowledge of community resources
- Experience in Psychiatric disorders
- Knowledge of local resources
- Good computer skills
- Strong assessment skills
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well
with community partners - Ability to work independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Certified in Non Violent Crisis Intervention
- Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
- Knowledge and experience working
with clients dealing with psychiatric disorders
