Cornwall Community Hospital Medicine Program is funded for 60 program beds.
Patients in the medical program beds have conditions that may need to be diagnosed, stabilized, and treated. Care provided is active, compassionate and aimed at improving quality of life for the patient and their families. Patients no longer receiving active medical care that are not able to be discharged home are deemed as Alternate Level of Care status (ALC), and wait in a medical bed until suitable alternate arrangements are made.
A number of health care professionals work together as a team to meet the needs of medical patients. The bilingual nursing team consists of health care aides, registered practical nurses, and registered nurses. The bilingual multidisciplinary team incorporates the nursing team along with physicians, program clerks, social workers, physiotherapists, dieticians, discharge planners, spiritual care providers, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy.
