Inpatient Psychiatric Care Unit
The Inpatient Psychiatry Care Unit is mandated to provide assessment, stabilization and short-tem inpatient treatment. The inpatient unit is comprised of a total of 22 beds (20 regular and 2 observation) and the average length of stay is set for less than 16 days. Intensive services and secure beds are available to confine, closely observe and treat people whose behaviour is disruptive/difficult to manage.

Programming on each unit follows principles of rapid stabilization combining behavioural management, psychological interventions and appropriate use of medications. The interventions use both individual (one-to-one) and small group approach. The patient and their family are engaged in the process and are invited to become full participants in the care planning. Educational and recreational activities are offered and community partners are strongly encouraged to participate.
