CCH Maintains National Accreditation for Echocardiography Services

2026-04-30

Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) is proud to announce that its echocardiography services have once again achieved full accreditation through Accreditation Canada’s Echocardiography Quality Improvement (EQI) Program.

Accreditation is completed on a four-year cycle to assess ongoing commitment to quality and safety. The program last accredited CCH’s echocardiography services in 2021. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted by Accreditation Canada late last year, including an on-site assessment by surveyors and a detailed review of clinical practices, policies, procedures, staffing, and equipment.

It was determined that CCH’s echocardiography services continue to meet Accreditation Canada’s national standards for quality and safety, resulting in the hospital once again receiving full accreditation.

“Over the past several years, CCH has implemented a number of enhancements to strengthen the quality and consistency of its echocardiography services, including partnerships with Ottawa-based cardiologists for remote interpretation and the adoption of a new reporting system aligned with leading cardiac centres in the region,” said Dr. Christopher Johnson, Medical Director of Echocardiography at CCH. “Achieving full accreditation reflects the team’s ongoing commitment to quality and continuous improvement.”

“We are proud to offer innovative, high-quality cardiac imaging services close to home for our community,” says Jeanette Despatie, CCH President and Chief Executive Officer. “This accreditation reflects the hospital’s continued commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the region.”

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that can assess its structure and function and help identify conditions such as valve disease and other cardiac abnormalities. CCH performs nearly 3,000 echocardiograms annually for patients from Cornwall, Akwesasne, and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.
